Despite the increasing competition, current performance results in contemporary universities are seen as not totally satisfactory by many policy makers, parents, community members, faculty and students around the world. The purpose of this paper is to make a review of performance management in the twenty-first century university. The paper examines the critical issues of performance management in the university system.
