This study examined the extent to which the present economic recession in Nigeria has affected private universities performance and sustainability of in Nigeria. A quantitative data was generated from 41 respondents derived from a questionnaire distributed via self-administered procedure. The respondents were selected through convenient sampling technique from a private University located at Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. The data gathered was analysed using the SMART partial least square. The results revealed that economic recession has effect on both the performance and sustainability of the private university examined. The study concluded that economic recession significantly affected both the performance and sustainability of the private university in Nigeria. Private universities can reduce the pressure of economic recession through tapping into other areas by a way of diversification - consultancy services and Strategic business services and alliance with industries and also try to become more aggressive in their business activities by organizing more programmes outside the mainstream academic function.enEconomic Recession and Private University Performance and Sustainability In NigeriaArticle
