Five research objectives were developed to guide the researchers. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study; the study population was 400 levels undergraduate students of 2021/2022 academic year. Only the two hundred and ninety five registered students as at the time of the research, constitutes the sample size for the study. Questionnaire was the instrument of data collection, data collected was analyzed with SPSS version 20. Results obtained were presented in percentage and frequency with bar chart. The hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of significant and it was concluded that there is a significant relationship between utilization of information resources and academic performance of undergraduate students. It concluded that effective utilization of information resources in the college libraries would result in improvement of the academic performance of the undergraduate students. It recommended that the University Management should continually approve budgets for the acquisition of current information resources both print and electronic copies, databases and internet subscriptions among others.Item Career counselling and career information on career choice in librarianship among postgraduate library and information science (LIS) students in Southwestern Nigeria(Library and Information Perspectives and Research, 2024) Ozonuwe Opene Sunday; Lateef Elizabeth Bukunola; Nwoke Onyekachi Maryann; Aniogbolu ChukwudiCareer counselling and career information are dynamic vehicles that drive students towards career pathways and self-development. Uninterrupted career counselling and career information in librarianship will result in an upturn in the number of career choices in the profession. The objective of the study was to investigate the effect of career counselling and career information on career choice in librarianship among postgraduate students in library and information science schools in Southwestern Nigeria. A descriptive research design of correlational type was adopted for the study. The hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of significance. The population of the study covered one hundred and sixty one (161) master's degree students of the library and information science programme in the 2019/2020 academic year in the Southwestern Nigeria. A total of 161 copies of questionnaire were administered personally by the researchers to the respondents, and 157 were retrieved and found satisfactory for the study. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used for data analysis, and the results obtained were presented in frequency and percentage, pie chart, and bar chart. The study discovered that the students were not interested in the librarianship profession at the first degree level, but they developed a passion for the profession later in life. The study recommended that librarians use all media types (television, radio, newspapers, web pages, and social media channels, among others) to create awareness and promote their profession.Item Career Orientation as a Determinant for Career Choice in Librarianship among Final Year Students in Federal Unity Schools in Lagos State, Nigeria(International Journal of Educational Research, 2023) Ozonuwe Opene Sunday; Olaojo Pius Olatunji; Ogochukwu Ezeudu BenedictaChoosing a career that aligns with student’s interests, skills and values considerably increases their chances of socio-economic accomplishment, personal satisfaction and overall happiness in life. The study investigated career orientation as a determinant for career choice in librarianship among final year students in federal unity schools in Lagos State, Nigeria. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The study populations were 937 final year students in Federal Unity Schools, Lagos State. 50 percent of the entire population was used bringing the sample size to 468 respondents. Questionnaire was the data collection instrument, data collected were analysed using SPSS version 24 and results were presented in frequency table using percentage count, mean and standard deviation. The study found that the overall mean of career orientation of student was “33.37” and it was concluded that the level of career orientation of final year students in Federal Unity Schools in Lagos State, Nigeria was average. Also, the overall mean of career choice in librarianship was “28.39” which indicates average level of career choice in librarianship among final year students in Federal Unity Schools in Lagos State, Nigeria. The test of hypotheses showed a positive linear relationship between career orientation and career choice among final year students in Federal Unity schools in Lagos State, Nigeria. The study concluded that career choice in librarianship is dependent on extensive career orientation of secondary school students. It was recommended that qualified professionals in librarianship and guidance and counselling should be engaged to help the students take advantage of the numerous opportunities that abound in librarianship profession among others.Item Computer Literacy Skills as a Determinant of Electronic Reference Sources Utilization among Selected Secondary School Students in Ado-Odo Ota Local Government, Ogun State, Nigeria(International Journal of Knowledge Content Development & Technology, 2024) Ozonuwe Opene Sunday; Lateef Elizabeth Bukunola; Farukuoye Adesanmi MathewThe study investigated computer literacy skills as a determinant of electronic reference sources utilization among selected secondary school students in Ado-Odo Ota Local Government, Ogun State, Nigeria. Four specific objectives with conforming research questions guided the study. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprises of SSS3 students of the three selected Community Secondary Schools in Ado Odo Ota. A sample size of 150 was used for the study. The instrument for data collection was a self-developed structured questionnaire. Data collected was analyzed using frequency and percentages. Findings of the study revealed that majority of secondary school students were not aware of the availability of electronic reference sources. It also revealed that the level of their computer literacy skills was below average. Majority of them have never used computer before and the few of them that have used computer before used it in their homes, their friend’s homes or in the cyber café. It was found that lack of formal training on the use of electronic reference sources, lack of access to computer, lack of awareness of availability of electronic reference sources, lack of funds for internet subscriptions, over dependency on printed reference sources and lack of motivation to use electronic reference sources were the major hindrances to the use of electronic reference sources among secondary school students. It was recommended that the school librarians and teachers should play a role in creating awareness among secondary school students about the availability of online/ electronic reference sources among others.Item Information Literacy Skills and Knowledge Sharing Practices among Federal College of Forestry Students in Ibadan, Oyo-State, Nigeria(Samaru Journal of Information Studies, 2024) Ozonuwe Opene Sunday; Ogunojemite Abosede Tola; Rotimi Racheal Ajibola; Giwa Ayokunle Oluwadamilola; Ogundana Ayomide Ayoola; Olaseigbe Yetunde FaithThe study investigated information literacy skills and knowledge-sharing practices among the Federal College of Forestry students in Ibadan, Oyo-state, Nigeria. Survey research was conducted to determine the influence of Information Literacy Skills (ILS) as a predictor of Knowledge Sharing Practices (KSP) among Federal College of Forestry Students in Ibadan, Oyo-State. The study sought to find the types, tools, purposes and challenges of sharing knowledge among Federal College of Forestry students Ibadan. The study adopted a quantitative method and deployed a questionnaire-based survey research design. Its population consists of 361 respondents from the Federal College of Forestry Students. The sample size was drawn using a random sampling technique. Data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings showed that the common types of knowledge shared are class notes/handouts, previous examination papers and entertainment such as music, video games, movies, Fashion, and sports. The tools mostly used were face-to-face, social media and mobile phones and the least tools used were Laptops. The purposes of sharing knowledge are to solve study-related problems, clarify or discuss the examination-related matter and discuss requirements of class projects, term papers, or assignments. Challenges to sharing knowledge among federal forestry college students include time constraints, Fear of providing wrong information and poor mobile and internet networks. The findings showed that the respondents had a high level of information literacy skills. The results also showed that information literacy skills have a significant positive relationship with the knowledge-sharing practices of Federal Forestry College students. Information literacy skills were found to have a significant positive relationship with knowledge-sharing practices, underscoring their importance in fostering a collaborative academic environment. To further enhance the positive impact of information literacy on knowledge sharing, the college should integrate comprehensive information literacy training into its curriculum. This will ensure that all students are equipped with the necessary skills to share knowledge effectivelyItem Self-sustaining library services through strategic fee-based initiatives: a roadmap for academic library administrators in Nigeria(Communicate: Journal of Library and Information Science, 2024-12) Ozonuwe Opene Sunday; Olaseigbe Yetunde Faith; Ogunojemite Abosede Tola; Rotimi Racheal Ajibola; Giwa Ayokunle Oluwadamilola; Ogundana Ayomide AyoolaThis study investigates the potentials of fee-based library services as a self-sustaining model for academic libraries in Nigeria, addressing funding challenges and enhancing service delivery. A review of existing literature and empirical findings reveals that strategic fee-based initiatives can generate revenue, promote innovation, and improve user satisfaction. The study identifies ten feebased services, including digitization, research assistance, citation management, digital literacy training, virtual reference services, interlibrary loan services, study space reservations, technology lending, digital media conversion, and data management and curation. However, challenges such as poor planning, user resistance, and inadequate marketing hinder the effectiveness of fee-based services. To overcome these challenges, the study recommends market research, user education, targeted marketing, service quality improvement, accountability, and user feedback mechanisms. By implementing these strategies, academic libraries in Nigeria can develop self-sustaining fee-based services, diversify revenue streams, and enhance their contributions to academic success and national development. This study provides a roadmap for library administrators to navigate the transition to fee-based services, ensuring the long-term sustainability of academic libraries in Nigeria.Item Users’ perception and satisfaction with library facilities, resources and services in Crawford University, Nigeria(Journal of Library Services and Technologies, 2024) Lateef Elizabeth Bukunola; Ozonuwe Opene Sunday; Abayomi Adeleke OlatejuThe purpose of the study was to investigate the user’s perception and level of satisfaction with the facilities, resources, and services provided by Crawford University Library. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study, and the population of the study was one thousand six hundred (1,600) undergraduate students of Crawford University for the 2021–2022 academic year. A stratified random sampling technique was used to determine the sample size. A questionnaire was the instrument of data collection. Data generated were analysed using the statistical package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), and results were presented in descriptive and inferential statistics, frequency counts, simple percentages, means, standard deviations and charts. It was found that the majority of the undergraduate students at Crawford University were satisfied with the facilities, resources, and services provided to them by the library. Nonetheless, the study concluded and recommended that there should be improvement, especially in the areas of availability of newspapers, provision of a comfortable environment and quiet space, toilet facilities, and internet facilities. Also, maintenance culture should be upheld, and damaged equipment should be repaired or replaced, as a conducive environment will help to sustain a high level of user satisfaction among library users, among others.Item Work design, ICT use and service delivery of librarians in private universities in Oyo State, Nigeria(Journal of Library and Information Science, 2024-12) Ozonuwe Opene Sunday; Oloyede Oluwayemisi Eunice; Ogungbade Aderonke AyobamiThe study investigated the influence of work design and ICT Use on the service delivery of librarians in private universities in Oyo State. A survey research design was adopted and data was collected from 374 undergraduates selected from a total population of 15,095 using simple random sampling. The method of data analysis used in the study is descriptive and inferential statistics, specifically simple linear regression and multiple linear regression at a 5% level of significance. Findings revealed that work design (Adj R2 = 0.177, F (1, 356) = 77.866, p < 0.05) and ICT Use (Adj. R2 = 0.055, F (1,356) = 21.839, p < 0.05) significantly influence service delivery of librarians in private university in Oyo state respectively and jointly (Adj R2 = 0.176, F (2, 356) = 39.121, p < 0.05). The study concludes that work design and ICT Use contribute to the quality service delivery of librarians in private universities in Oyo State. Recommendation includes the provision of ICT tools and the implementation of user feedback for quality service delivery.
