This chapter examines the concept of school finance, its historical development, sources, budgeting processes, and financial control mechanisms in Nigeria. It highlights the importance of adequate funding for the effective operation of schools, including the payment of staff, provision of facilities, and maintenance of educational services. The chapter traces the evolution of school financing from missionary funding and colonial grants-in-aid to increased government involvement after independence. It identifies government sources such as budgetary allocations and special taxes, as well as non-government sources including community contributions, endowments, and school-based enterprises. The discussion also covers budgeting, budgetary control, and auditing as essential tools for efficient financial management and accountability in schools. The chapter concludes that while government remains the major financier of education, additional funding sources and effective financial management practices are necessary to ensure the sustainability and quality of primary education in Nigeria.
